Drop in School Enrollment
Many areas of Northern Nevada where housing prices are going up like crazy have seen drop in school enrolments and other areas that are seeing more stable prices have seen an increase in school enrollments. In Carson City, only 8,433 students are enrolled, while in Washoe County they are short of 1,000 students than expected. Clark County schools enrollments were 4000 students short of expectation. But a lower-priced alternative the Lyon County in Northern Nevada has seen rise in students by 28 percent since 2001.
Some time ago Las Vegas was considered one of the most affordable cities with world class infrastructure and migrants from around the country made Las Vegas their homes both because of the availability of jobs and the affordability of the homes. But today it is the not case. Many teachers leaving their jobs have indicated the high homes prices as the main reason for leaving their jobs.
According to experts a family needs an income of $70,000 a year to be able to afford a median-priced house in Las Vegas and people making less than that have no option but to leave. People from the more expensive states like California are finding Las Vegas and Nevada prices a steal and loads of them are relocating into Nevada. Areas where these migrants are setting up home are seeing increase in enrollments.
